How I make my walking canes

How I make my walking canes

I like to think my walking canes are rustic. My canes are used from the whole sapling meaning the handle is usually cut from the same piece of wood that I am going to make into a cane...

For the handle I drill a hole with a forstner bit which drills a flat bottom round hole, I hand carve the handle, and then I also carve the shaft to fit into the hole in the handle, I then sand it smooth, and then I epoxy the handle to the shaft. After it has dried I then put the finish on it, at least six coats of spar urethane or nine coats of lacquer. All my canes come with a rubber tip.
